Calf Augmentation and Cruroplasty

Beautiful women's legs have always attracted admiring glances. Today, legs that lack a slim or well-shaped calf can be reshaped with cruroplasty, a calf augmentation procedure using a dedicated implant. The risk of side effects is low. Many women, and often men too, now turn to calf shape correction.

Contouring calf plastic surgery, also called cruroplasty, helps restore the beauty and proportion of the legs after an illness or an accident. Still, as with any surgical procedure, the desired result depends on choosing an experienced specialist.

What Calf Augmentation Can Do for You

Calf augmentation is suited to patients who want better leg proportions, more contour, or a balanced silhouette. The surgery is straightforward, but it requires careful planning and precise implant selection. The notes below outline who the procedure is for and what it can address.

Indications
  • Indications for calf endoprosthesis:
  • Restoration of muscle volume lost through atrophy following complications of various illnesses.
  • Congenital weakness of the calf muscle tissue.
  • Surgical rehabilitation of the legs after accidents and serious trauma.
  • True or apparent bowing of the legs.

How the Calf Augmentation Procedure Is Performed

How the surgery is done

Cruroplasty is not a complex operation, and it takes about 30 minutes. The most delicate part is preparing the pocket under the muscle fascia. At that stage, the aesthetic surgeon must decide on the right implant size. Sometimes the planned implant is simply too large to fit under the muscle on the first try.

When the pocket cannot be stretched to the required size in one session, a smaller implant is placed first. Three to four months later, once the calf tissues have adapted and expanded, a second procedure allows a larger implant to be fitted.

Recovery After Calf Augmentation

After the surgery

After the operation, the patient stays in the clinic for one to two days before going home. Self-absorbing sutures, or cosmetic sutures that need removal, are placed. Ideally, the patient returns to the clinic every three days for a dressing change.

If that is not possible, dissolvable cosmetic sutures are placed under the skin and the area is treated with antiseptic every other day.

Recovery after surgery is a key part of the journey. Unlike a one-off operation, recovery takes continuous time and asks the patient to follow some limits and stay disciplined. For the first seven to ten days, shoes with a four to five centimetre heel should be worn.

That height takes some load off the calf muscles. During the first month after surgery, an intermediate layer forms between the implant and the calf muscle. In other words, the body surrounds the foreign object, the implant, with a capsule.

For this reason, during that period of about one month, the area must be treated gently. Avoid sport and do not load the calf muscles. Compression garments are very helpful. They should be worn for at least one month after surgery.
