Breast lift surgery

Breast lift surgery

What is breast lift surgery?
Mammary gland sagging and loss of skin elasticity is a natural process that can occur with strong weight loss, after pregnancy and lactation, as well as with age changes in the female body.

If the breast has lost its former shape and elasticity, and the gland-areola complex has shifted downward, a mastopexy, i.e. breast lifting operation, is performed. In order to achieve a good aesthetic result at the maximum level, mastopexy surgery is often combined with breast augmentation surgery. That is, both erection and enlargement of the mammary glands with implants are performed at the same time.

Indications

  • Sagging breasts;
  • Asymmetry;
  • Loss of breast volume.

Types of mastopexy
Mastopexy (breast lift surgery) can be performed in several ways. The cosmetic surgeon chooses the most suitable one according to the condition of the mammary gland and its level of ptosis. The price of the operation may vary depending on the method and the wishes of the patient. The mastopexy process focuses on the removal of excess skin and the displacement of tissues.

As a result of breast lift, the breast gland is given a new shape by moving the nipple and areola to a higher position. Scars become invisible over time. Because the incisions are made around the areola, or along the lower breast line in the areola. This is called a vertical mastopexy.

During breast lift, not only skin but also breast tissue is removed. In this case, breast reduction surgery (reduction mastoplasty) is also applied. A single mastopexy involves only skin correction - lifting of the chest skin. At this time, the breast tissue is not touched.

Breast lift surgery methods

The first method: breast lifting around the areola - periareola mastopexy. If the patient's chest is small and the deformation is not large, this method is used. Such an operation is often accompanied by endoprosthetics. Because in visible ptosis and breast reduction, single erection does not give the desired result, and the missing volume of the breast is filled with implants.

The second method: breast lifting with a vertical incision along the areola - vertical mastopexy. The method is used when it is necessary to remove a large volume of skin. As a result of vertical breast augmentation, a scar in the shape of a "tennis racket" is left. Scars in the areola tissues are absorbed until they practically disappear completely. In the lower part, the incision is made from the areola to the substernal line. During this incision, they combine the shaving of excess skin with the placement of implants.

The third method: T-shaped mastopexy - "anchor-like" erection of the mammary glands with vertical and horizontal incisions under the chest along the areola. If breast tissue correction is necessary here, then it is not about "bulky mastopexy", but about breast reduction. After this operation, the scar resembles an inverted T.
The fourth method: breast lift surgery using the SPAIR (Short-scar Periareolar-Inferior pedicle Reduction) method. The method allows to reduce mammary glands several sizes in one step. The scar is made in the form of a comma along the contour of the areola, the tail of which faces the armpits.

How is breast lift surgery performed?

The decision on how to carry out plastic surgery for breast augmentation is made by the plastic surgeon based solely on the patient's individual indicators and personal wishes. Sometimes it is enough to slightly "lift" the breast and distribute the subcutaneous tissue correctly.

There are also cases in which, in addition to the correction of the breast shape, it is also required to change the location of the nipple-areola complex and free the skin from sagging. The vast majority of patients want breast augmentation along with breast lift surgery.

Indeed, excess skin removal is often combined with implant placement. A plastic surgeon performs a breast reduction and erecting operation on a bulky mammary gland with large ptosis.

Contraindications

Chronic diseases in the stage of exacerbation;
Blood clotting problems;
Many benign derivatives (cysts) in mammary glands;
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (6 months after breastfeeding);
Oncology;
Diabetes.

Rehabilitation

During the rehabilitation-recovery period after breast augmentation, the temporary feeling of pain passes within a few days. With some restrictions, the normal rhythm of life can return after a week, and full strength to the body after 1-1.5 months.

During the month, compensatory clothing and limitation of physical stress are mandatory. The final result of the operation is evaluated only after 3-6 months.

Depending on the methodology and the condition of the chest, the operation can take from 1.5 hours to 4-5 hours. If the patient fully complies with the rehabilitation regimen, the probability of any complications is zero.

Important during rehabilitation:

Maximum exclusion of tension in the shoulder belt;
Continuously wear compression garments in the first weeks after surgery;
Time to time bandage.

I mentioned above that if the patient fully follows the rehabilitation regimen, the probability of any complications is zero. But, of course, this issue does not depend only on the patient. Even more important is the fact that the surgeon is knowledgeable, professional and experienced. In inexperienced hands, any operation can lead to complications and even accidents. Therefore, the choice of surgeon should be correct.

In this case, you can fully trust me - plastic surgeon Mubariz Mammadli. Together with my professional team, I professionally perform all aesthetic and plastic operations in Azerbaijan and Baku.
