Breast Reduction Surgery Techniques

Many breast reduction techniques exist. The surgeon measures all breast parameters first. Then they decide the reduction method and surgical scope.

The surgeon removes breast tissue, fatty tissue, and excess skin. The incisions are made at these locations:

Around the areola
Around the areola down to the inframammary fold
Around the areola along the inframammary fold
A comma-shaped incision to the armpit, called SPAIR technique

The amount of tissue removed depends on breast size. Surgery gives the breast a more natural shape and contour. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned higher. Scars are inevitable in this procedure. Cosmetic sutures minimize their appearance significantly. After 6-12 months, scars become less visible and fade. Sometimes breast reduction combines with liposuction for optimal results.

Recovery

Breast reduction surgery takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on complexity. A drain is placed after surgery to prevent fluid buildup. A compression garment is worn for one month. Hospital observation for 2-3 days is recommended. After this period, drains are removed and you go home.

Results are monitored regularly by your surgeon. Dressings are changed as healing progresses. Temporary pain may occur during recovery. This usually passes within several days. Most patients return to normal activity after 5-6 days.

Avoid heavy physical exertion for 4-6 weeks following surgery. After 1-1.5 months, you can resume all normal activities. Results become visible immediately after surgery. Final results appear after 6-8 months.
