- Why Is the Platysma So Important?
- indeed, every plastic surgeon has likely encountered a statement like, “You didn’t pull my face tight enough.” This is often due to patients misunderstanding how anatomy, tissue dynamics, and healing processes work.
Closed rhinoplasty surgery
Open and closed rhinoplasty
What is open and closed rhinoplasty? Are they priced differently? These questions often make patients think. Closed rhinoplasty is a rhinoplasty method using endonasal access. The main difference of the method is in the name itself. All incisions are made inside the nose only. But what are the other differences between open and closed rhinoplasty?
In open rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon makes an incision at the base of the columella (the area of skin between the nostrils) and inside each nostril. This method allows you to fully visualize all the structural elements of the nose and perform even the most complex correction with maximum accuracy.
In many cases, this technique is recommended. The incision in the columella region does not differ after several months.
In closed rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon makes incisions inside the nostrils. Thus, there are no noticeable external incisions after plastic surgery. However, this plastic surgery method is not practically applied to solving some problems of rhinoplasty.
Closed rhinoplasty is not recommended if a nasal implant is to be placed, as well as in some repeat rhinoplasty cases. Not all surgeons can use closed rhinoplasty: a highly qualified doctor and great experience, impeccable knowledge of anatomical structures, and the ability to work with minimal visualization of the surgical field is required.
Closed rhinoplasty or closed nose surgery procedure
Closed nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in each nostril. In order to carry out accurate manipulations during the operation, it is necessary to use miniature surgical instruments.Depending on the surgical plan, the plastic surgeon adjusts and removes tissues, bones, and cartilage. Sometimes nasal implants are used to achieve the desired nose shape.
Endoscopic equipment can be used in the surgical correction process. Plastic surgery is completed by applying internal sutures and an external fixation bandage.

Indications
Closed rhinoplasty is known as closed-nose aesthetic surgery. Indications for it are the same as for other types of rhinoplasty:• asymmetry;
• round, droopy, or very steep tip of the nose;
• that the bridge of the nose is straight, wide, or flat;
• humps and depressions.
Contraindications
• the patient's age is less than 18 (there are exceptions, rhinoplasty can be done at an earlier age in case of injury);• inflammatory ENT diseases;
• active phase herpes;
• decompensated diabetes;
• blood coagulation disorders;
• menstruation;
• diseases of the cardiovascular system, ischemic heart disease, heart failure;
• liver and kidney diseases;
• folliculitis in the area of planned surgical intervention;
• acute viral diseases;
• oncological diseases.
Rehabilitation
Due to less tissue damage, the rehabilitation period after closed rhinoplasty is relatively short. However, the external swelling in the nasal area persists for up to a month. It is quite obvious in the first two weeks. General discomfort and weakness of the body may be observed. This is normal and disappears within a week.The nasal tampons are removed the day after the operation. On the 10-11th day, the outer dressing is opened. At this time, you will see the result of the surgery. But it can be fully evaluated after a month. Full recovery can take from 6 months to a year.
After closed rhinoplasty, sports should be avoided for two months to prevent injuries. You should forget contact sports (boxing, wrestling, etc.) for six months.
Saunas and baths should also be excluded for two months after closed rhinoplasty. Consult your surgeon about wearing glasses. In most cases, glasses should not be worn for two months.
